Why This Week Is Awesome

Sasquatch was amazing. Really. Best shows of the day were probably Delta Spirit, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Mars Volta (who I don't even like), Flight of the Conchords, and The Flaming Lips. Actually, The Flaming Lips weren't that great...but the UFO show...my god. EPIC. The UFO, and the lights, and Wayne Coyne's bubble he rolled around in, and the videos in the background, and the dancing tellytubbies, and the naked women that came out on stage, and the war protest, and...gahhhhh! It was a great show. The music wasn't so great...but some of the songs were pretty good. They did a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Song Remains The Same", which was awesome. They had this great video playing in the background, of these kids in the 70's hitchhiking and running through the woods, and having sex...all dreamy, and summery and fun.

Mmmm...anyway, Rodrigo y Gabriela played a bunch. That was impressive. There was this girl doing some salsa dancing or something by herself the entire time. The Rod y Gab show was great, because they mixed it up a lot. They played some short little covers, just asking the crowd what they wanted to hear, and going with it. Rodrigo used his beer bottle as a slide at one point. It is impossible to say that "Rodrigo y Gabriela are just OK guitarists".

Flight of the Conchords were awesome, as expected. They talked a lot between sets. My favorite thing was when they talked about how they "were actually a band".
Brett: "Yeah..were were backstage with the bands...you know...just hangin' out...doing band stuff. So, did you get any blowjobs?"
Jermaine: "Yeah...like, 47 or so. Simultaneously. I can actually see some of the people who did them in the crowd. Thanks ladies! Um...Brett, would you hand me the band pick? I need it for this next song."
They sang Jenny, Mutha Uckers, Business Time, Robots, Boom Boom, Most Beautiful Girl in the Room, and one I've never heard about Angels; Doin it'. I dunno...there was probably more...but I can't remember.

Mars Volta were great. I don't like them too much, because they're a little screamy and all, but they put on a hell of a stage show. This was probably the most "rock show" of all the shows. I would totally have done anybody in that band, after watching them preform. They reminded me of some psychedelic funk group, because it was all very...funky. Reminiscent of P-Funk, if I could be so bold as to compare the two. I dunno...it was just a cool show. Lots of like...trippy guitar noises and stuff.

The Hives put a good show on, but that lead singer is one cocky, Swedish bastard. He would say stuff like "They should really be paying me more, because it's so hot out here. Oh wait...it's just me". They put a pretty good show on as well...very energetic.

Matt Costa was great. Very cute. Pleasant. He played my favorite of his songs, Mr. Pitiful. Extra points were given to him, because he wore a cowboy hat.

Built To Spill sucked. Not sucked, that's a bit harsh...they were just really boring. They played one or two good songs, but the rest were just sort of sloppy. And they had zero stage presence, which I think is necessary, if you're not in a really personal venue.
Delta Spirit were great. They were the first show of the day we watched all the way through. Because they were on a smaller "Wookie" stage, we got really close to the stage which was cool. Uh...yeah.

I watched a tiny part of Def Dyme, but only to take some video for one of my friends. To show her that not all the music at Sasquatch was the same. They were actually really good...I mean, at the whole "being tight" thing. I was impressed.

I saw a portion of Kay Kay & The Weathered Underground, but not very much, because it overlapped Flight of The Conchords. KK&TWU, were good...but not great. Just good.

That's about all I saw, besides little snippets of the rest of the bands.

Reasons Why This Week Is Awesome (Visual Edition):
This week is awesome, because I got a trunk. Now I can go to Hogwarts!
This week is awesome, because I played tennis with my sister. My sunburned scalp is the same color as my shirt. Ouch.
This week is awesome because my dad found his old Moby Grape poster, that came along with the album. Sorry about the shit picture.
This week is awesome because I realized what I want to find in Seattle. I'm liking the whole dress & jean jacket thing. Very casual.
This is how you do "Bohemian in the City", without looking slubby. I think, anyway. I don't know why this picture makes this week awesome, but whatever. I guess there was only 4 days of school this week. And tomorrow is the seniors last day of school, which is awesome. For them. I'm going to Seattle tomorrow, which qualifies as awesome. 84% is equivalent to a B. A B is the grade that I received on my math test this week. B=AWESOME. So...that is why this week is awesome.

OMG. A TRUNK?! That is really freaking awesome. You can put bodies in it and make Polyjuice Potion with their hair! I mean, you can put clothes in it!

I love the scalp picture.

its interesting that you compared the mars volta to p-funk because i remember reading an interview with them a long time ago before i was into p-funk where they were talking about them and what big fans they are
anyway, the festival sounds rad and i really enjoyed this post!

Funny you mention the hives being cocky as a turnoff because usually cocky bands are hilarious (franz ferdinand is a good example, saw them live once & they literally prance around the stage, it was great), too bad they weren't. And built to spill sucked? hmm, ugg, i loved the song liar, but now that i think about it, honestly that is really the only good song by them, when I was looking up cds for my b-day I checked them out and they definitely weren't impressive enough to get my vote

Sigh. If I were about 7 inches taller, I'd totally try out bohemian in the city. I'm jealous you have a trunk.
